Assam TET: Eligibility Criteria, Exam Pattern, and More
Assam Teacher Eligibility Test or Assam TET is a teacher eligibility test, conducted at state level for determining the eligibility of candidates seeking a teaching job at primary level(classes 1-5) or Middle school level (classes 6-8) in the state of Assam. It is held every year, by the Department of School Education under the Government of Assam. After clearing Assam TET exam, candidates are shortlisted and are awarded a qualification certificate confirming their eligibility, which is valid till 7 years.

Assam TET Eligibility Criteria
The Assam TET Eligibility Criteria that a candidate must fulfil to appear for the TET exam are as follows:-
- A candidate should possess a domicile certificate or other documents, proving that he is a permanent resident of the state of Assam.
- The candidate must meet the criteria regarding minimum qualification given below.
Minimum Qualification for Lower Primary (classes 1-5)
Candidates applying for paper-I (Lower primary) in Assam TET must have:-
- Senior Secondary (Class-12) qualification with at least 50% marks.
- A 2 year Elementary Education diploma.
Or
- A 4 year Bachelor degree in Elementary Education.
Or
- Graduation along with either a 4 year Bachelor degree or 2 year diploma in Elementary Education.
Minimum Qualification for Upper Primary (classes 6-8)
Candidates appearing for Assam TET paper-II (Upper primary) ought to have:-
- Senior Secondary Qualification with at least 50% marks and –
- 4 year Bachelor degree in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).
Or
- 4 year B.Sc.Ed/B.A or B.Sc.Ed/B.A.Ed.
- Graduation with minimum 50% marks and-
- 1 year Bachelor in Education.
Or
- 2 year diploma in Elementary Education.
Assam TET Exam Pattern
Assam TET exam comprises Paper-I and Paper-II, conducted in two different shifts, both offline in nature. Candidates who plan to teach in primary (classes 1-5) have to apply for and appear in paper-I. Whereas, those candidates who intend to teach in middle school (classes 6-8) must appear for paper-II. A candidate can choose any one language as the medium of examination from English, Hindi, Assamese, Bodo and Bengali. Each paper-I and paper-II has a time duration of 150 minutes.
Assam TET Exam Pattern for Paper-I
Paper-I of Assam TET consists of 150 objective type questions, divided in five sections. Content as well as structure of paper-I is given below.

Some important points to note:-
- A candidate must score 60% of marks (general category) to qualify in Assam TET paper-I.
- There is no penalty for wrong answers i.e., no negative marking and for each right answer, a candidate is awarded 1 mark.
- The syllabus and topics of paper-I are drafted and released by the Department of Elementary Education.
- All the questions in paper-I are multiple choice questions and are to be attempted within two and a half hours.
Assam TET Exam Pattern for Paper-II
There is not much difference in paper-I and paper-II, when we talk about No. of questions, Time limit, Medium of examination etc. But, paper-II, slightly varies in terms of subjects and level of examination. Given below is the structured content of paper-II.

Some important points to note:-
- A candidate must score 90 marks out of 150 in order to qualify in Assam TET paper-II.
- Like in paper-I,there is no negative marking scheme in paper-II.
- Mathematics & Science section in paper-II checks basic understanding and know-how of fundamental concepts which later form the base for advance learning in both subjects.
- Syllabus of paper-II is also fixed and released by the Department of Elementary Education.
- Questions Language-1 and language-2 tests a candidate’s fluency in communication and comprehensive reading skills in respective languages.
