PKU Professor Zhao Zhenjiang awarded “Translator of the Year” by Cuban Southern Press

Peking: Along with the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cuba on September 28, Professor Zhao Zhenjiang from the the School of Foreign Languages at Peking University was awarded the honorary title of “Translator of the Year ” (“El traductor del Año”) in 2020 by the Cuban Southern Press (Colección Sur Editores).

Professor Zhao is an important translator and researcher of the Cuban poet José Martí, and an outstanding representative of Chinese-Spanish translators in China. As a non-governmental envoy of cultural exchanges between China and Cuba, and between China and Latin America, he has been working diligently for decades to promote China-Cuba mutual understanding, trust and support. The Cuban Southern Press commended Zhao for his extraordinary contribution to the popularization of great Spanish-language poets, and especially to the promotion and dissemination of contemporary Cuban poetry in China.

Zhao graduated from Peking University where he is now working as a professor and doctoral supervisor of Spanish Language and Literature. He has translated the classic works of Neruda, Cesar Vallejo, García Lorca, Rubén Darío, Gonzalo Rojas and many other Spanish-language literary figures, which has been widely praised and received.

The Cuban Southern Press, affiliated to the Cuban Association of Writers and Artists, is a publishing house registered by the Cuban Ministry of Culture for the publication of Cuban and foreign literary works. The Cuban Southern Press endeavors to promote China-Cuba book exchanges and plays an important role in bilateral cultural cooperation.
