La Trobe excels in Education
Education is the University’s highest performing subject in this year’s rankings and the fastest growing subject over the past two years, having climbed 202 places since 2019.
Five La Trobe subjects have ranked in the top 200 this year – Education; Arts and Humanities; Clinical and Health; Life Sciences and Law.
La Trobe Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar AO said that once again the impressive performance in these rankings was testament to the extraordinary talent and commitment of staff across wide-ranging subjects, cementing the University’s position as a world-leading education and research institution.
“La Trobe University is focused on providing an exceptional environment in which to teach, learn and advance research in fields that contribute to improving communities on a local, national and global scale,” Professor Dewar said.
“It is especially pleasing to see global recognition for our teaching and research in Education. This reflects our innovative approach to teacher education, our strong research performance in this field and our highly valued partnerships with schools.”
Dean and Head of La Trobe’s School of Education, Professor Joanna Barbousas, said La Trobe’s wide-ranging Education qualifications are focused on areas of future need, such as designing innovative learning in teaching, ensuring graduates are equipped with sought-after skills needed for the modern classroom.
“Our graduates, including those from the highly-successful Nexus program for career-changers, are job-ready and in demand,” Professor Barbousas said.
“We are equally innovative and forward-thinking when it comes to our research programs in Education. For example, our new Science of Learning and Reading (SOLAR) Lab is leading an evidence-based push to change the way children are taught to read.”
In September, La Trobe achieved its highest position so far in the Times Higher Education World Rankings, placing 234. The University is ranked in the top 400 universities worldwide by all three major independent rankings agencies – the Times Higher Education World Rankings, the ARWU global rankings and the QS World University Rankings.
