One day training cum awareness program organized for FPO at Reasi

Reasi: Division of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) under the dynamic leadership of Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu, Prof. J.P. Sharma organized one day training/awareness program under NABARD sponsored project at Pouni block of Reasi district in which more than twenty five member farmers’ of FPO Reasi participated.

The programme was organized for the Farmers’ of Farmer Producer Organization of Vegetables namely Reasi Vegetable Producers Company Ltd. and in the presence of officials of NABARD and CEO of the Farmer Producer Organization.

The Principal Investigator of the project, Dr. Anil Bhat, briefed the farmers about aims and objectives of the project wherein sustainable business cum marketing model will be suggested for farmers’ to augment their income and appropriate market linkages will developed for better remuneration.

Associate Professor, Division of AEABM, Dr. Sudhakar Dwivedi discussed about the importance of economic analysis of vegetables grown by the farmers’ and also gives suggestions on reducing input cost and scope of value addition. Associate Professor, Agricultural Extension Education, Dr. Lakshmi Kant Sharma suggested the farmers to adopt technologies recommended by the University for cultivation of vegetables and also discussed appropriate use of farm inputs.

Associate Professor, Vegetable Sciences, Dr. Satesh Kumar, interacted with the farmers’ and briefed about the time of harvesting of vegetables, selection of vegetables based on the market demand and suitability of climatic conditions which ultimately lead to better price discovery.

The farmers were advised to go for cultivation of vegetables as per the market demand and for that matter crop/ vegetable calendar will be devised and disseminated to the farmers’. Team of the scientists also made a visit to the field of few farmers’ for on spot remedial measures to the problems due to attack of insect.

Earlier, District Development Manager, NABARD Reasi, Adarsh Gupta welcomed the farmers and team of Scientists from various divisions of the University. The programme was also attended by Sunil Kumar, CEO of the FPO, Reasi.
