Central University of Odisha Celebrates National Press Day 2020
Koraput: The Central University of Odisha Celebrated National Press Day on 16 November on virtual mode. Organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, the celebration was conducted in the form of a webinar titled “Press in Digital Era: Issues and Challenges:
The Vice Chancellor Prof. I Ramabrahmam inaugurated the Function and focused on the importance of newspapers in the society. Before the emergence of electronic media, print media was the only source of information and it had a huge credibility. Now information are coming through various sources but difficult to know which is reliable. He analysed the tagline of various newspapers and its relevance.
Prof. Akshyay Rout, Visiting Professor of the Department spoke on the occasion as the Chief Speaker. In the era of digitization and globalization the challenges for print media is more and it should follow good journalism to face the challenges. He described media as a catalyst of change and the enlightening instrument in the society. In this situation the challenges can be overcome. He highlighted the different challenges print media face in the digital era.
Speaking on the occasion as the Panel Speaker, Prof. Pramod Kumar Jena, Visiting Professor of the Department analysed the status of newspaper in the era of digitization. He focuses on the plight of small and medium newspapers and particularly rural newspapers.
The Session was presided over by the Head I/c pf the Department Dr. Pradosh Kumar Rath, who threw light on the purpose of the National Press Day. Other faculty members Dr. Souruav Gupta, Sony Parhi, Talat Jahan Begum, Sujit Kumar Mohanty and student Jagannath Mohanty also spoke on the occasion.
