A Vellayan, Advisor Murugappa Group Re-appointed as Chairman of IIM Kozhikode
Kozhikode: Shri A Vellayan, Advisor, Murugappa Group has been re-appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Governors (BoG) of IIM Kozhikode, for a further period of 4 years, as per IIM Act 2018. This is his second tenure as Chairman BoG IIM Kozhikode, after being first appointed to the position in November, 2018. He will chair his first meeting of the BoG for the current tenure at IIMK Campus on 21st January 2023 (Saturday).
IIM Kozhikode since 2018 has consolidated its position as the Top 5 Management Institution in the country as per Ministry of Education’s NIRF Ranking, with a best showing of Rank #4 in 2021. This period also witnessed IIMK Kozhikode bagging the prestigious EFMD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) Accreditation (2021) to complete a double crown of global recognition with the AMBA (UK) awarded to IIMK in 2010. IIM Kozhikode also became the only IIM (Rank 2, Non –technical CFI) to feature consequently in the prestigious Atal Innovation Rankings (ARIIA, Ministry of Education) in this period. The institute’s Post Graduate and Executive Post Graduate Programmes made their global debut in the QS Global Rankings, which is believed to be the world’s most trusted rankings. The Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP) is ranked 16+ in Asia-Pacific in the QS Global Executive MBA Rankings 2021. As per the QS Masters in Management Rankings 2022, the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) is among the top ten programmes in Asia. IIMK was also placed in the four Palmes of Excellence Category in the Eduniversal Global Rankings 2022.
In addition, Shri A Vellayan is associated with various organisations including Ambadi Investments Pvt. Ltd., Kanoria Chemicals & Industries Limited, Foskor Pty. Ltd., South Africa. In the past, Shri Vellayan has held positions of President in various industry and trade organizations, and has also been Director of EXIM Bank and Indian Overseas Bank. He is an alumnus of well-known educational institutions such as Doon School, Sriram College of Commerce, Aston University, UK and University of Warwick Business School, UK. He has been honoured with Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) by the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and Aston University, UK.
