Aalto Digital Creatives Art & Tech Open Call ‘22 received a record number of applications

Forty-one projects applied for development funding in this year’s Aalto Digital Creatives Art & Tech Open Call. Three to five out of these projects will be granted funding for producing a prototype or a demo of their project. The Open Call’s deadline was in the beginning of May and the pre-selection boards are currently reviewing applications for the shortlist.

The yearly Art & Tech Open call seeks audiovisual, design, gaming and other cutting-edge projects where digital technology is used to fuel the creative industries. In this year’s open call, the projects vary from gaming concept development to utilizing VR/AR/XR technology, artificial intelligence and Motion Capture technology for art and cultural industry projects. In addition to this, there are a variety of projects that focus on developing digital platforms for creative industry practitioners.

Due to new partnerships the Art & Tech Open Call can grant more funding to projects than in previous years. This year’s open call partnered with the City of Helsinki, AVEK, Yle and Genelec and it was organized in collaboration with Aalto Digital Creatives program which is a campus pre-incubator supported by the City of Helsinki.

The Art & Tech Open Call final takes place at the Media Lab Demo Day event on 1.6.2022. Eight finalists will pitch their projects as a part of the Demo Day’s on-stage program. The winning projects will be announced after the pitching competition.

One of the requirements for the development grant is that the teams produce a prototype or a demo of their project. The production period for the projects is between June 2022 and February 2023. The finalized prototypes or demos will be presented at the Art & Tech Gala at the beginning of the year 2023.
