Aalto University: Linh Tran received a notable Jane K Klausman Women in Business scholarship

Linh Tran, who studies in the School of Business, is one out of six women worldwide to be awarded the 2021 Zonta International JMK Women in Business Scholarship in both the regional ($2,000) and international ($8,000) levels, totaling $10,000.

‘This honorable scholarship is a tremendous source of encouragement as I continue to pursue my goals and prove that women can achieve much more than what we are told to believe in,’ Linh says.

She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Management and International Business (HR Major) and a dual degree in CEMS Master’s in International Management. For the time being, she is completing her CEMS exchange semester at Cornell University in the United States.

The Jane M. Klausman Women in Business scholarships are awarded to women who study business or business-related subjects and have demonstrated significant talent in the field. A total of 31 women from 25 different counties received the scholarship for the 2021–2022 academic year.

Passion for people management
Growing up in a society where being good with numbers is the key to success, Linh Tran was often told that she was not good enough and used to have lots of doubts about herself.

‘As an international student in Finland, my career path has been quite a bumpy journey. However, thanks to that I have been consistently pushing my boundaries and learnt so much about myself.’

Linh says that she has experienced very distinct work environments and cultures – from a highly competitive and number-driven corporate to a radically dynamic and people-oriented startup – and that she strongly believes that when people are given the right environment and a chance to do what they truly enjoy, the positive outcomes are significant. ‘This is how I realized my passion for people management.’

‘After graduation, I want to work in a field where I can help firms strengthen their organizational structure and foster their most valuable resource – people. In addition, I hope to help international talents in Finland integrate into the local work life and build fulfilling careers. I want to provide them the support I was craving for when I was struggling to find my own direction,’ Linh says.

The first Jane M. Klausman Women in Business scholarships were awarded in 1998. The scholarship was established by a bequest from Jane M. Klausman. During her career Jane M. Klausman worked as Zonta International Parliamentarian from 1990 to 1995, as well as a professional secretary, parliamentarian, and an entrepreneur.
