Academy of Women Entrepreneurs Program to Launch in Telangana, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad – The U.S. Consulate General in Hyderabad and Kalinga Institute of Information Technology-(KIIT), Technology Business Incubator, have announced the launch of the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) program in locations across the states of Telangana, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh. AWE will be implemented by KIIT-TBI in cooperation with the U.S. Consulate General in Hyderabad and will be funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of State.

“Assisting women to formalize their businesses and become even more active participants in the economy of India is one of the U.S. government’s key priorities,” said Consul General Jennifer Larson.  “I know from personal experience what a great impact AWE can have in the lives of its participants.  We look forward to working with KIIT-TBI and our local partners in the coming months to bring AWE to life in Telangana, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh.”

AWE is a multi-month program designed to provide female entrepreneurs with the skills they need to formalize and grow their businesses.  AWE combines the online learning platform Dream Builder with localized in-class discussion, mentoring, engagement with local business leaders and U.S. experts, as well as Indian alumni of U.S.-government supported exchange programs to impart core business skills like strategic planning, marketing, and financial management.  Dream Builder, developed by Arizona State University’s Thunder bird School of Management, is a no-cost online learning platform that offers 13 online business modules covering the basics of starting a business.

AWE will be opened to a total of 100 aspiring women entrepreneurs in four cities: Warangal, Bhubaneshwar, Vishakhapatnam, and Thirupathi.  Each location will have the capacity for 25 participants, and classes and programs that will take place both online and in-person.

KIIT-TBI will be accepting applications online for the AWE program starting on  June 8, 2023.  Participants must reside in or near Warangal, Bhubaneshwar, Vishakhapatnam, or Thirupathi.   Prior to the opening of applications, KIIT-TBI will conduct eight  online information sessions to share more information about the program and how to apply.  The information sessions will be held over Microsoft Teams, for the entire TAO region. A technical team from KIIT-TBI will evaluate all applications and make the final selection of participants.
