Action Plan finalised for Road Safety Month 2021 at Kulgam

Kulgam: A meeting of concerned officers was today held under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kulgam, who is also the Chairman District Road Safety Committee to finalize the action plan for the upcoming celebration of 32th National Road Safety Month-2021.

At the outset of the meeting Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kulgam, Dr Mohammad Zubair Lattoo who is also member secretary of District Road Safety Committee briefed the house about the importance of Road Safety month.

He said that this year the Government of India, Ministry of Transport and Highways has decided to observe Road Safety Month from 18 January to 17 February 2021 instead of National Road Safety Week.

He said that during this period, various activities have been planned to be conducted throughout the length and breadth of the district in association with stakeholders including Education department, Health, Police, Traffic, SDRF, Civil Society,Traders Federation, NGO, Insurance Companies and other stakeholders.

Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that this month long National Road Safety event should be seen as an opportunity for aggressive campaigning to promote a culture of road safety among its users. He said that recent amendments in the Motor Vehicles Act should be highlighted through various seminars, workshops, events and meetings.

Further banners and pamphlets should be used to spread awareness about traffic rules and regulations set by the government.

Among other activities that are slated to take place during National Road Safety Month 2021 include advocacy of road safety, road safety awards, launch of digital road safety calendar 2021, awards and certificates for road safety, good samaritans etc, and cultural programme highlighting the road safety awareness among general public and student community.

Additional SP Kulgam, Joint Director Planning, Chief Education Officer Kulgam, ACR, Executive Engineer R&B, DySP DAR, officials from the health department were present on the occasion.
