Alexandria University’s Community Service and Environmental Development Council Evaluates Rainwater Management Strategy Project

Dr. Saeed Allam, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Acting Vice President of Alexandria University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, emphasized to the faculty deans the need to fully review the facilities, auditoriums, and laboratories in all the university’s faculties and institutes before the start of the new academic year, and to complete all maintenance work in them. This came during the Community Service and Environmental Development Council meeting on Monday the 18th of September, in the conference hall at the Faculty of Engineering.

 The Council reviewed the report submitted by Dr. Essam Wahba, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Postgraduate Studies and Research, on the university’s readiness to participate in the global green classification (Green Metric Word) by presenting its main topics, which are (infrastructure – energy – climate change – waste – water – means of transportation -education and scientific research).

 The Council also reviewed the report submitted by Dr. Walid Abdelazim, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, on the Integrated Strategy Project for Rainwater Management within Alexandria Governorate, from the start of the project in 2015 until now, the most important factors that caused the increase in risks resulting from rain, and a presentation on the executive position of the project and the proposed locations for implementation.

 Dr. Saeed Allam appreciated the university’s signing of several cooperation protocols during the current period, such as the cooperation protocol between the Engineering Centre at Alexandria University and the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Sanitation to reduce the repercussions of climate change in Alexandria Governorate and benefit from rainwater in the New Delta Project, as well as the cooperation protocol between the university and Alexandria Governorate, in cooperation with Pharos University, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport , to prepare detailed plans for unplanned areas in Alexandria Governorate to eliminate slums and transform those areas into a digital system using geographic information systems, in view of the university’s great scientific and research expertise to serve the community.

 The Council reviewed a number of different activities, workshops and events at the Faculties of Agriculture, Tourism and Hotels, Physical Education for Girls, Economic Studies and Political Science, the Higher Institute of Public Health, and the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research.
