Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Association Qatar (AMUAAQ) Sir Syed Day Celebration -2023

Sir Syed Day was celebrated in Doha, with great fervor and enthusiasm on 17th November by AMUAAQ which is an associate organization of ICBF under the aegis of the Indian Embassy. Ambassador of India to Qatar HE Shri Vipul was the Chief Guest at a function organized in Jade ballroom of Hyatt Regency Oryx Doha. Professor Mirza Mohammad Sufyan Beg, Principal of Zakir Hussain College of Engineering & Technology and Chairman of AMU Alumni affairs committee, AMU Aligarh was the Keynote speaker and Guest of Honor. Other dignitaries on the stage were Jawed Ahmad, Chairman AMU Alumni Association Qatar, Mr. Salman Abdul Ghani of Toyota group in Qatar, Mrs. Sophia Bukhari and Mr. Azim Abbas.

 

President of AMUAAQ (affiliated), Dr Nadeem Zafar Jilani in his welcome speech recalled immense contribution of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan towards the nation building and termed him one of the architects of modern India. He outlined the various social and community service activities of AMUAAQ including the free health camps, blood donation camp, women empowerment events, interfaith dialogues, skill development under AMU Alumni Toastmasters Club, cricket tournament and community Iftar out of many. In his welcome address paid glowing tributes to the founder of Aligarh Muslim University and remembered how Sir Syed travelled to England to study the British Education system and established MAO College on the pattern of universities of Oxford & Cambridge.

 

The keynote speaker, Professor Sufyan Beg spoke on the theme, ” Sir Syed Ahmed Khan: A Messiah of Peace, Progress and Harmony”. He cited many examples from the life of Sir Syed to emphasize that he wanted different communities to come together, seek higher education and adopt a scientific temperament. He also talked about how AMU has produced many heads of the states, leaders and highly acclaimed professionals in all walks of life and wondered why the community couldn’t develop many institutions like AMU after Sir Syed.

 

The Chief Guest, HE Shri Vipul congratulated AMUAAQ on organizing the 206th Sir Syed Day program and paid rich tributes to the founder of AMU. He quoted, PM of India Shri Narendra Modi, who spoke highly about the soft power of AMU Alumni world wide projecting a beautiful image of India’s religious harmony and secular ethos.

 

Jawed Ahmad, Chairman of the AMU Alumni Association Qatar introduced all the dignitaries and gave a glimpse of the activities of AMUAAQ throughout the year and outlined future plans of the association. Mr. Ahmad informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier said the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) represents “mini-India” and has to its credit 100 glorious years of excellence in education.

During discussion with members Mr. Ahmad said that all Aligs should come together to fulfill the AMUAAQ mission towards community and alma mater.

 

The program started with the recitation of the holy Quran followed by opening remarks by Ghazala Yasmeen.  It was compered eloquently by Vice President of AMUAAQ ladies’ wing, Dr Ashna Nusrat and Dr Mohammad Nayeem Aman who is head of AMUAAQ skill development group.

Shahabuddin Ahmad (Chairman, Bazm e Sadaf), Dr. Imtiyaz, Dr. Sikandar, Dr. Habiba Hina, Dr. Yusuf Ansari, Ahmad Ashfaque, Ashfaque Deshmukh, Mohammad Irfanullah, Mohammed Amanuddin Ashraf and other community leaders also attended the occasion.

AMUAAQ Executive members thanked the Lulu group, Gulf Light, City Exchange, WWICS, Care N Cure, Apex, Affix ,Seen services, Al Aqsa Neon, Kalyan Jewellers, SK Tanveer Ahmad for their extended support

Urdu symposiums were conducted from Doha literary circles kept the audience engaged and entertained. AMU doctors and community leaders were felicitated for their support towards community.

Dr. Jilani appreciated and thanked all the members of managing & advisory committees of AMUAAQ specially Chairman Jawed Ahmad, VP Mohammad Faisal Naseem, VP ladies wing Dr Ashna Nusrat, GS Mohammed Farman Khan , Dr. Syed Intekhab Alam, Mrs Ghazala Yasmeen, Mr Mamnoon Bangash , Head of Sports Mr Farrukh Farooqui , Head of Toastmasters Dr.Mohammed Nayeem Aman, Mr Abad Khan, Mrs Saima Rafat and Mr Imaduddin Ahmad, Dr. Imran Mumtaz, Faisal Abdullah, Lutfi Kakar, Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, Syed Shahabuddin, Faisal Abdullah, Yawar, Ghufran Ali Khan, Pramod Kumar, Nishat Ali Khan, Mansoor Alam, Dr. Syed Mohammed Hasan Rizvi, Syed Rashid Hassan for their hard work and commitment to organise the meet up  at a very short notice.

Sir Syed award for professional Excellence 2023 – International Excellence Awards Sir Syed award for professional Excellence Presented to Professor, Atif Eqbal , Qatar University.

AMUAAQ Community Service Award Presented to Mr. Sharaf P Hameed, CEO City Exchange.                                                                              

AMUAAQ Best RJ & Journalist of Indian Community Excellence Awards Presented to RJ Kabir, works for FM 107 Urdu radio Qatar.

A one minute video speech contest with the title “Sir Syed Ahmad Khan  A reformer and a visionary” was conducted. The winners were Amna Faisal, Fatima Farooqui and Ahzam Khan

There was raffle draw by Kalyan Jewellers and it was won by Aisha Naz Syed Rashid Hassan and Farman Khan

Dr. Ashna Nusrat & Shafqat Nabi organized a quiz competition on Sir Syed’s life, mission, achievements, A.M.U It was highly appreciated and enjoyed by all participants as it was played on the mobile app and a Projector screen – Winner of this program was Prof. Atif Eqbal, 1st runner up Mr. Shakeel Mallick and 2nd runner up Mr. Mohammed Farman Khan.

Dr. Nadeem Jilani, President of AMUAAQ informed that this association has 4 subdivisions. They are: 1. AMUAAQ – Toastmaster, 2. AMUAAQ – Sports, 3. AMUAAQ – Healthcare, 4. AMUAAQ – Ladies, he also  informed  that apart from these there is no other official groups of AMUAAQ

Mr. Faisal Naseem, Vice President, A.M.U Alumni Association-Qatar thanked all the attendees and esteemed guests.

Finally, the National Anthem of Qatar and National Anthem of India was virtually played. The event culminated with a beautiful rendition of the university’s evergreen musical tarana (anthem),“Ye mera chaman hai mera chaman,main apne chaman ka bulbul huṅ”.

 

A sumptuous Indian dinner was severed to all the attendees.
