Aligarh Muslim University, Dept of History Online Condolence Meet

 

Aligarh, May 6: Faculty members of the CAS Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) mourned the deaths of their colleagues, Dr Jibrael, Dr M Siraj Anwar, Dr Aziz Faisal, Dr Mohammad Abbas Mehdi, Ms Hijazia and Mr Bhoor Mohommad in an online condolence meeting. Prof Gulfishan Khan, Chairperson and Coordinator, CAS Department of History chaired the meeting.

Extending condolences, Prof Gulfishan Khan said, “I express my deep sadness over the deaths of people associated with the Department of History. The deceased faculty members brought in new knowledge and widened horizons of scholarship through their indefatigable endeavours”.

Prof B L Bhadani, Dr Rajendra Kumar, Dr Nitin Goyal, Dr Ritesh Vyas, Dr Manorama Upadhyay (Rajasthan) and Dr Mayank Kumar (University of Delhi) also attended the meeting.

Dr Jibraeil was an Assistant Professor at the Department of History, AMU who also taught at the Jamia Millia Islamia and Kirori Mal and Shivaji Colleges of the University of Delhi. Urban history, environment and water management system of Rajasthan were his focus areas.

Dr M Siraj Anwar was a Professor at the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). He obtained his M.Phil and Ph.D. degrees from AMU and also taught on ad- hoc basis in the university for a short period.

Dr Aziz Faisal was working as an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Women’s Studies, AMU. He also taught at the Department of History and the History Section of Women’s College.

 

After completing his Ph.D from the Department of History, AMU; Dr Mohammad Abbas Mehdi was teaching at the Amity College in Lucknow.

 

Ms Hijazia Begum, a postgraduate from the Department of History, AMU was a teacher at the AMU Girls’ School.

 

Mr Bhoor Mohommad was the office/pantry attendant served at the Department of History for more than two decades.

 

Students and non-teaching staff also attended the online meeting.
