Aligarh Muslim University mourns Prof M Shakeel Ahmed Samdani

 

Aligarh : The students and grieving colleagues today bid a tear tearful adieu to distinguished academician and Dean, Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Prof M Shakeel Ahmed Samdani, who passed away after a brief illness. He was 60-years-old.

“I am at loss of words to express my grief after knowing about Prof Shakeel Samdani’s sudden demise. He was a passionate and dedicated teacher and a fine human being apart from being a reputed academician. I pray to the almighty to grant peace to the departed soul and pray for courage to his family members”, said AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor.

He added: “Prof Shakeel Samdani’s vibrant presence has left an indelible mark. He taught and mentored students and helped them to achieve successful careers. His contributions are immense and I like to send my heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to his bereaved family”.

This sad demise is a personal loss for me, said the Vice Chancellor.

Prof Shakeel Samdani has served the university in various capacities such as member of the AMU Executive Council; member of the AMU Court; member of the AMU Academic Council; Estate Officer (Gazetted); Coordinator, Cultural Education Center; Coordinator, Nodal Office, AMU Centers and Chairman, Department of Law.

He was an expert of Family Law, Public International Law, Human Rights, Islamic Legal System and Constitutional Law of India and taught the graduate, post-graduate and research students.

Prof Shakeel Samdani was the author of ‘Uniform Civil Code: Problems and Prospects’ – and ‘Maintenance of the Muslim Divorcee’. He was also working on two other yet-to-be-published books and was a recipient of many awards for his academic acumen. He published papers in peer-reviewed journals.

He contributed opinion pieces and editorials to national newspapers and regularly appeared as an expert in panel discussions of the mainstream news channels.

Prof Shakeel Samdani represented the cultural life of AMU across the country and abroad. He was an excellent speaker, who delivered highly engaging speeches with relevant messages.
