Aligarh Muslim University mourns Shri Pranab Mukherjee’s demise

Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) fraternity mourns the sad demise of Shri Pranab Mukherjee, India’s former president and one of the country’s most admired political leaders. He died at the age of 84 at a New Delhi hospital.

“AMU community is deeply saddened with the news of Shri Pranab Mukherjee’s demise. He was an elder statesman, who will be remembered for his exemplary services to the Nation,” said AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor.

He added: “Our sincere condolences are with his family and followers during this difficult time.”

I had personal relations with Shri Pranab Mukherjee and this is a huge loss for me at the personal level, said the Vice Chancellor.

Shri Pranab Mukherjee made at least three visits to AMU. His last visit was during the bicentennial birth celebrations of AMU founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan on October 17, 2017, when he delivered the commemoration address as the chief guest at the university’s Athletics Ground. Earlier, he visited AMU as the Finance Minister and once attended a Social Science Congress in the University.
