Aligarh Muslim University organises Swachhta Pakhwada
Aligarh: Various departments of studies and schools at the Aligarh Muslim University organized Swachhta Pakhwada to spread the Swachhta message and awareness among students.
Poster making and slogan writing competitions were held at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. Nearly 35 students from various departments of studies participated in these events. Students also took Swachhta pledge with a purpose to spread awareness about cleanliness at the work place, in localities and surrounding areas. At Abdullah School, Mrs Umra Zaheer, urged the students to remain vigilant of cleanliness in their surrounding and help spread awareness regarding general cleanliness in residential areas. She also called upon the people to avoid use of plastics. A plantation and cleanliness drive and poster making competition was also held. The AMU City Girls’ High School held a number of programmes including poster making and slogan writing competitions on the theme ‘Forest Conservation’, cleanliness and plantation drives. A ‘Best out of Waste’ programme was also held in which students used their creativity to make useable things out of condemned articles. School Principal, Dr Md Alamgir distributed prizes to the winners and appreciated the efforts of students and teachers to make the Swachhta drive successful.
Similar awareness events were held at the Department of Education in which a large number of students and teachers took part and carried out the message of general cleanliness. A plantation drive was also held on the occasion with a number of teachers, students and non-teaching staff participating in the act of enhancing campus greenery.
At the Rural Health Training Centre, Jawan, under the department of Community Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Dr Abhishek Kumar (Intern) won the first prize in the slogan writing competition while Dr Afeefa Akhtar and Dr Ajmal Khan won the second and third prizes respectively in the competition. In poster making competition, Dr Yasir Zubair and Dr Sudhir Verma won the first prize for effectively depicting ways to reduce use of plastic in everyday life.
For awareness among people in adjoining rural areas Dr Ambika delivered a talk at CHC, Jawan while Dr Kartika engaged village people in a health talk at village Sumera, urging people to shun the use of plastic. The hazardous effects of plastic on environment were also discussed in the interactive session held at village Chhota Jawan. The participants were urged to “reduce, reuse and recycle” to minimize the polluting effects of plastic. Dr Uzma Eram, RHTC Incharge administered an oath of cleanliness while Dr Tabassum Nawab along with other faculty members and interns planted saplings at the RHTC campus.
