Aligarh Muslim University staff and students take part in Swachhta Hi Seva Abhiyan with great zeal
ALIGARH : The Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammad Gulrez today urged the people to take part in the national drive, “Swachhata Pakhwada-Swachhata Hi Seva 2023” and give their best to make the country one of the cleanest country in the world. He said this will not only help transform India into a green and clean country according to the aspirations of the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, but also help make the country a true epitome of Mahatma Gandhi’s dreams.
Prof Gulrez, who enthusiastically took part in cleaning activities and observed the exercise at several places on and around the university campus, along with the Registrar, Mr. Mohmmad Imran (IPS), Dr Ali Jafar Abedi, Nodal Officer and other university officials, termed the cleaning services as one of the true services to the nation that also goes in line with the national drive “Swachhata Hi Seva”.
He pointed out that every one of us has a responsibility towards the environment and the mother earth to keep our surroundings clean and healthy and let this great resource be passed on to our forthcoming generations in a natural order as best as we can.
The university teachers, students and staff showed an exemplary zeal towards the national drive and enthusiastically took part in the massive cleanliness drive held in several areas on the university campus, to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The earmarked sites, where the cleanliness drive was carried out under the national cleanliness drive, “Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta”, announced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, included the Slum area near Indira Gandhi Hall; Controller Office, New Block at Tibbiya College; Cycle Stand S.T.S. School; Hostel at Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged; Medical Road; Mirzapur village adopted by Department of Social Work and the area from Aligarh Public School to CDO Complex.
Prof Mohammad Gulrez and Mr Mohammad Imran visited the different sites, including the Trauma Centre area at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, and participated in the cleanliness activities, along with other teachers, students and staff.
Prof Veena Meheshwari, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Prof Haris Manzoor Khan, Principal, JNMC, Prof R.K. Tewari, Principal, Dr Z.A. Dentakl College, along with the Swachhta programme coordinators Dr Abdul Waris, senior DMS, Dr Shah Mohammad Abbas Waseem and Dr Mohammad Kamran Khan, who facilitated the cleanliness drive activities under the supervision of Prof Shagufta Moin, the nodal officer for this purpose, participated in the cleaning activities.
The Coordinator, NSS; Principal, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College; Principal, S.T.S School; Principal, Ahmadi School for Visually Challenged; Chairman, Department of Social Work; Director, Centre for Continuing Adult Education and Education and Extension (CCAEE) and the University Health Officer, in coordination with the Nagar Swasthya Adhikari, Aligarh maneuvered, managed and facilitated cleaning activities at the above sites.
A massive cleaning exercise was undertaken at the university schools, including the ABK High School (Boys and Girls), AMU Girls’ School, STS School, RMPS AMU City School, AMU City Girls’ High School, Saiyid Hamid Senior Secondary School, Senior Secondary School (Girls), Abdullah School, Ahmadi School, and at the halls of residence under the guidance of their principals and provosts.
During the exercise, sweeping of open spaces alongside the roads, clearing of shrubs, picking of unwanted paper and plastic rags, cleaning of open drains, classrooms, corridors, stair rails, bathrooms, etc., were carried out with the help of faculty members, students and staff at the above sites.
