Aligarh Muslim University to celebrate Republic Day with gaiety

Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University will hold Republic Day celebrations with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm and several programmes will be organized in the university and its affiliate institutions during the week preceding the main Republic Day function on January 26. The decision was taken at a consultative meeting held in the conference room of the Administration block which was presided over by the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Akhtar Haseeb. The meeting was attended by Deans of faculties, DSW, Proctor, Provosts of halls of residence and principals of schools and colleges, besides senior administrative officers.

AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor will unfurl the national flag at the Strachey Hall on January 26 at 9.30 am and will take the guard of honour from the NCC cadets.

Earlier in the morning, the AMU Unit of National Service Scheme will organize Prabhat Pheri in which school students from STS School, AMU City School, ABK School and Senior Secondary schools will participate. The girl students will take out a separate Prabhat Pheri which will be conducted by the Provost, Abdullah Hall.

A traditional Mushaira will also be held at University Polytechnic conference hall at 6.30 pm on the eve of the Republic Day while all prominent university buildings will be lit with colourful lights.

Mr Abdul Hamid, IPS, Registrar presented an outline of the programmes scheduled for the occasion.
