Aligarh Muslim University: Women’s College Swimming Pool inaugurated

Aligarh: The girl students of the Women’s College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) will now have the facility of swimming coaching and training in the college premises.

Along with faculty members and university officials, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor today inaugurated a swimming pool in the Women’s College.

“Swimming is a great exercise as it takes stress off the body, builds endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness. It is a talent, which needs to be nurtured and this facility will provide the girl students to hone up their skills,” said Prof Mansoor at the inaugural.

He pointed out that every new development in the Women’s College goes ahead to further realise the dream of Women’s College founder, Sheikh Abdullah Sahab.

Prof Zaheeruddin (Pro- Vice Chancellor) said that the college development is in the top priorities of the Vice Chancellor.

Renowned paediatrician, Dr Hameeda Tariq said that this new pool will provide the Women’s College students with the amenity to train for participating in national championships.

Prof Naima Gulrez (Principal, Women’s College) emphasised that it was the vision and dream of College founder, Sheikh Abdullah Sahab to have all provisions and developments in the Women’s College.

“The College has numerous facilities and it is up to the students to make the best use of these means,” said Prof Ghazala Naheed (Provost, Abdullah Hall).

Prof S Amjad Ali Rizvi (Secretary, University Games Committee) pointed out that swimming is more effective than other exercises and it one of the best workouts anyone can start.

Prof Major Fareed Mehdi (Member-incharge, Building Department), Prof Roomana N Siddiqui (Chairperson, Department of Psychology), Prof Nikhat Taj, Rajiv Kumar Sharma (University Engineer) and Nazia Khan (Assistant Director, Physical Education) also attended the inaugural function.
