Within a few years of entering the online market in India, Amazon has been dominating along with its counterpart Flipkart. Flipkart is an Indian retail e-commerce company basically set in Bangalore, India. Initially, the company mainly focused on its book sales. Gradually, they moved to other product categories as well, such as electronics, fashion, lifestyle products, and other domestic products. The e-commerce giant competes primarily with Amazon’s Indian subsidiary and also, Snapdeal.

Amazon is basically an American e-commerce and cloud computing company based in Seattle, Washington. It was founded by Jeff Bezos in the year 1994 and now is a globally recognized e-commerce platform. A Paytm spokesperson said that they shall be increasing their focus on affordability services as that would be an important growth driver for them. Large appliances contribute to 8-10% of their overall sales in the non-festive season. They are expecting it to grow to up to 20%.

RedSeer CEO Anil Kumar says that the wider availability of credit and debit cards have been a key boost for the purchases of all the white goods and non-essential products. Flipkart started pushing the debit card EMIs last year and Amazon is all set to do that this year. Kaveesh Chawla, director, category management at Amazon says that the large appliances category had seen a growth of 100% since last year. Various programmes have been implemented such as exchange and no-cost EMIs on credit and debit cards. These have been the critical driver behind the high purchase for customers in Amazon.

Flipkart said that the large appliance category shall be on demand this festive season. They have also opened up several warehouses and fulfillment centers. Besides, they have been working with their partners and brands for several months now, in the preparation for the ‘Big Billion Days.’
