Amity Law School Celebrates ‘Law Week’ with Symposium Series
Amity Law School, Jaipur is celebrating National Constitution Day as ‘Law Week’ by organizing a series of though-provoking symposiums from November 21-26, 2020. The symposiums will be delivered by renowned legal experts and resource persons who will share their knowledge on current legal affairs for the benefit of students. In the first symposium titled ‘Arbitration – a paradigm shift in dispute resolution’ was led by Retired judge from the High Court of Punjab and Haryana, Dr. Bharat Bhusan Prasoon and renowned Supreme Court advocates, Abhimanyu Bhandari and Manpreet Khurana. The symposium focused on the need of arbitration as a mode of dispute settlement in comparison to litigation. It is because litigation can be expensive and time-consuming. It also results in adding burden on the courts. Accordingly, there is a pertinent need for alternative dispute resolution. Arbitration, being cheaper and time efficient has probably become the most common technique of alternative dispute resolution. The next session, ‘Shades of Humanity’ was organized to sensitize the audience to the cause of transgenders. The symposium specifically looked at the legal challenges faced by the transgender community with enlivening discussion led by transgender activist Amruta Soni and first transgender High Court lawyer Satyashri Sharmila. The third symposium in the series, on ‘Speech of Freedom – Luxury in New Age’, will have ANI Correspondent Ravi Jalhotra and Advocate General, Rajasthan High Court Dr. Manish Singhvi as guest speakers and they will express their opinions on the dynamics of public speaking. The symposium series was hosted by Director, Amity Law School, Prof. Saroj Bohra along with faculty members Dr. Ashu Maharishi and Mr. Prateek Deol
