Amity University Haryana facilitates Nari Shakti – President Award Winner Ms Sunita Singh Choken

New Delhi: Amity University Haryana facilitates the Nari Shakti – President Award Winner Ms Sunita Singh Choken (also Mt Everest Climber) after completing 5000 km (in just 46 days) journey from Kanyakumari to Kharadunga today in the afternoon at the campus premises.
5000 Kilometres of cycling across sea coasts, plateaus, challenging city roads, deserts, forests and snow clad mountainous terrain- This is what dreams are made of. While many others of her age are enjoying the comforts of their secure homes and families, this young girl from the small town Rewari of Haryana is out there battling the roads with a mission.
‘I would not have achieved what I have, had it not been for my parents’ says Sunita. Coming from the Gujjar community where life has a lot of restrictions specially for girls its incredible that she even dreamt of scaling the greatest heights. She has the distinction of being the youngest girl from Haryana to climb the Mount Everest at the age of 25 years. As she arduously cycles her way across India she wants to spread awareness about ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ (Save the girl child. Educate the girl child) campaign and the evils of child marriage highlighting the need to support education of girls and the right to equal opportunity for them.
‘After this whole journey I realised that India actually is the country of “Unity is Diversity”. And I am thrilled to know that how helpful people in our country are, I am glad and admire the unity of our country’ she said while talking to the students.
“One message for the youth is to Never Give Up because everything is possible. I request the parents of our society also to trust your kids especially girls, set them free and give them freedom. And if you really want to contribute to the society plant a tree on your salary day, birth day, appointment day etc. Give back something to environment also as we are struggling with lots of environmental issue” 25 year old Sunita added.
Recipient of the ‘Nari Shakti Award 2016’ from the President of India H’ble Pranab Mukherjee Sunita is also the brand ambassador of Haryana Government for the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign. She was awarded with Bharat Guarav Award (2012) and BSF Daughter Award (2013) also.
Prof (Dr) P B Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Haryana and President Association of Indian Universities while encouraging the girl said “She is real model for the youth of our country”
