Gujarat CM Vijaybhai Rupani visited Wildlife Care Center for Kruna Abhiyan 2020 at Ahmedabad

Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Vijay Rupani visited the Wildlife Care Center in Ahmedabad today. He said that GoG has launched “Karuna Abhiyan” (Mercy Mission) to save the birds who get injured with threads during Uttrayan (Kite) festival.

Makarshakrant (Kite Festival) is an important festival. Kites and threads are widely used in this festival. Many people and birds get injured during this festival. Karuna Abhiyan is carried out in collaboration with the Animal Husbandry Department, Forest Department and various Non-Government voluntary organizations. A helpline number, ambulance and ICU for on-site treatment are also provided under the Karuna Abhiyan.

13500 people, including 650 hospitals and 5000 government employees join the campaign. Before the campaign began, more than 35,000 birds lost their lives every year.

Chief Minister further stated that the government is taking every possible measure to protect lives and injuries being caused during the Kite Festival. Government is strict against the usage of ‘Chinese’ threads.

On the occasion Minister for Forest and Tourism Mr. Ganpatsinh Vasava, MLA Mr. Bhupendra Patel, Mayor Smt. Bijalben Patel, Additional Chief Secretary of Forest and Environment Mr. Rajiv Gupta, Collector, High Officials of Forest Department and people remained present.
