Satyarthi, Adi Godrej, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Dominic Barton enthrall Amity University students at 4th Convocation; All four conferred Honoris Causa Doctorate

Gurugram, February 24, 2018: Even as we grapple with global warming, our hearts are cooling down. Warmth and compassion are going away from our lives while morality and humanity have been a casualty as well. What India can give to the world today, in the midst of growing materialism and apathy, is the globalization of compassion, and I urge upon the youth to make this happen. Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi said this at the 4th Convocation program for Class of 2017 of Amity University Gurgaon, Haryana. At the Convocation, over 100 students were awarded doctorate, gold and other medals.

Dr Aseem Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University Gurgaon said, “I compliment all my students for having successfully earned the coveted degrees and medals, especially those who have reached the pinnacle of education and got doctorates. What makes this convocation special is the blessings that our students get from leading luminaries who have excelled in their respective fields and set highest standards of success.”

The University also conferred Honoris Causa Doctorate to Nobel Laureate Sri Kailash Satyarthi, Padma Bhushan Sri Adi Godrej, Chairman Godrej Group; Padma Bhushan Ms Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, CMD, Biocon Limited; and Mr Dominic Barton, Global Managing Partner, McKinsey.

Dr Ashok Chauhan, Founder President of Amity Group said, “What makes our universities unique, as against the Harvard, Wharton or Stanford, is our incredible emphasis on human values – our ethos, respect to elders, faith in god, compassion – that help shape perfect human beings ready to take on the challenges of the world.”

Complimenting students, Sri Godrej said, “You are graduating at a time when India offers great opportunity to you to contribute to nation building and achieving global eminence on strength of your innovative and enterprising geniuses. Now that Digital India, Startup India and Make in India are inspiring us all to build an India of our dreams, you have a bright future ahead.”

Inspiring students to work on affordable innovations and curiosity-led knowledge building, Ms Shaw said,”The wealth of nation is education, and the new fuel that turns the wheel of economy is knowledge. 21st Century belongs to those who have an unquenchable desire to learn, question and solve problems.” Exhorting youngsters to be passionate about whatever they do, she added, “purposeful pursuit of passion is the only thing that you will ultimately find brings fulfillment as you look back at the journey of your life.”

Mr Satyarthi added, “Education is one instrument which can provide solutions to many challenges of the world.” Echoing Satyarthi, Mr Barton said “Education is the ultimate force that is driving change in the world and India is at the center of it all. There is a huge economic power shift that is moving towards Asia. India is at the centre of where people want to be.” He expressed hope that the youth will use this opportunity to experiment and excel.

Expressing his gratitude to the distinguished guests, Dr Chauhan added, “At Amity, we always strive to nurture in our students the spirit of achieving excellence through a blend of knowledge and practical training. Your presence here shall immensely inspire them to value the importance of focus, diligence, perseverance and industriousness.”
