Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Students Win TCS’ EngiNX 2018 for creating a Digital Twin in ‘Smart Manufacturing’

Mumbai: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), a leading global IT services, consulting and business solutions organization, on Friday August 31, hosted the grand finale of the sixth edition of its premier engineering and Internet of Things (IoT) challenge, EngiNX – Engineering for the Next Generation, at its Olympus Center, Thane in Mumbai.

The theme this year was ‘Digital Twin’ (i.e. a digital copy or replica of a physical asset or a system), and saw over 75,000 students registering from 1,600 institutes across the country. More than 8,500 teams participated in the qualifying round and the selected teams had to propose a use case for a digital twin of a product, process or a system in the areas of smart manufacturing, smart ecosystems, smart mobility, smart machines, and smart health.

After two grueling rounds, the top five teams made it to the grand finale. For the ultimate showdown, the teams had to create and showcase their digital twin with all their physical, digital systems and algorithms. An esteemed panel of judges assessed the entries, and announced the winners:

1. Winners – Team Vision – Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore – Smart Manufacturing

2. 1st Runners up – PSGiTech-2 – PSG ITECH, Coimbatore – Smart Machines

3. 2nd Runners up – Netaji Subhash Engineering College, Kolkata – Smart Ecosystem

The winners were awarded a grand prize of Rs 5 lakh, the runners up took home Rs 2.5 lakh, and the second runners up received Rs.1 lakh. All the finalists received provisional offers to join TCS after completing their engineering degrees.

Speaking on the occasion, Regu Ayyaswamy, Vice President, IoT and Engineering & Industrial Services, said, “Every edition of TCS’ EngiNX has created opportunities to explore the latest technology, and having introduced the concept of Digital Twin, this edition was no different. IoT brings newer avenues for young engineers to embrace techno-social innovation in the digital era. The contest has emerged as a great platform for students to showcase competitive spirit and talent in emerging areas.”
