The keynote speaker, Prof. Jitendra Srivastava, Faculty of Humanities and Director, International Division, IGNOU, New Delhi, elaborated on the contemporary scenario of Hindi poetry.

In his analysis of literary ideologies of the last 60 years, concerning Hindi poetry, Prof. Srivastava said that the strength of Hindi poetry has been Mahatma Gandhi’s idea of ‘reach out to the last man’ and even today if it has to remain relevant, it will have to embrace the last man in society.

He underscored the current trends in Hindi poetry, including the issues of public concern, progressive values and revolutionary consciousness. He said that self-criticism, love and domestic issues have been popular trends in poetry over the last sixty years, however, there is a fundamental difference in the approach of male and female poets.
