AMU Centre Malappuram hosts an awareness session on POSH Act

 

Aligarh : The Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) of Aligarh Muslim University Centre, Malappuram, organised a comprehensive awareness session on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act on March 23. The event aimed to enlighten and sensitise participants about the legal framework and mechanisms in place to address issues of sexual harassment within the workplace.

Dr. Faisal K.P, Director of AMU, CM, in his inaugural address, highlighted the importance of combating sexual harassment and fostering a safe and respectful environment. He commended the initiatives undertaken by the ICC, including the dissemination of essential documents such  as the ICC’s Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), the POSH Act, and a handbook for stakeholders.

Mrs. Sruthi T. M., Women Protection Officer, Malappuram, delivered the keynote address, offering insights into the legal intricacies and practical implications of the POSH Act. She stressed the significance of institutional mechanisms like the ICC in upholding women’s rights.

Dr. Naseema P.K., presiding officer of the ICC, elucidated the committee’s mission and its pivotal role in nurturing a culture of respect and dignity.

The main session featured discussions and presentations by Mr. Asif, a 4th-year law student, and his team, focusing on the provisions of the POSH Act and engaging participants in meaningful dialogue. Coordinators from various departments emphasised the interdisciplinary collaboration necessary to address sexual harassment issues effectively.

Mr. Mohd. Ahazam Khan, Assistant Registrar AMUCM, reiterated the institution’s commitment to maintaining a harassment-free environment.

An interactive session provided attendees with the opportunity to pose questions, share experiences, and seek clarification on aspects related to the POSH Act. The ICC also organized a quiz based on the circulated materials and the content covered during the awareness session, which saw enthusiastic participation from 103 faculty, non-teaching staff, and students.
