AMU doctors’ team participate in international conference at Kuala Lumpur

ALIGARH: A large fleet of 22 faculty members and senior and junior residents from the Department of Community Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University participated in the 9th International Conference on Public Health-2023 (ICOPH 2023) organized at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by the International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM) on “Preparedness in Public Health: Advancing Technology, Equity and Strengthening the Community”. The Department of Community Medicine was one of the academic partners of the conference which was held in hybrid mode.

Prof. Saira Mehnaz, Chairperson, Department of Community Medicine, who led the team, delivered the plenary speech on “Empowering Communities for Health Equity: The Transformative Role of Community Medicine in Public Health” stressing the importance of Health Equity in public health sector to empower the community.

She said the conference provided an opportunity to know about diverse researches and case studies from all over the world, as more than 200 participants from over 40 countries attended the conference.

The members of AMU team, including Dr. Tabassum Nawab and Dr. Sameena Ahmad (Assistant Professors), Dr. Yasir Zubair, Dr. Shivangi and Dr. Karthika P., (Senior Residents),  Dr. Iram Abid, Dr. Hira Alam, Dr. Danish Kamal, Dr. Harapriya Natarajan and Dr. Jhilmil Agrawal (Junior Residents) made oral presentations.

Dr. Tabassum Nawab and Dr. Danish Kamal were honoured with best presentation of session award under the theme of maternal health and adolescent and young adult health, respectively. Dr. Jhilmil Agrawal was given the best presentation award for the session under the theme of health research. Dr. Safia Habib, Department of Biochemistry, J.N. Medical college was given the overall best presentation award in virtual mode.

Prof. Saira Mehnaz evaluated several conference sessions while Dr. Tabassum Nawab and Dr. Sameena Ahmad chaired a few sessions.
