AMU faculty delivers a lecture at an online symposium
ALIGARH : Dr Tabassum Nawab, Department of Community Medicine, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University spoke on dietary requirements and recommendations for antenatal females and lactating mothers and shed light on how maternal deficiencies of various micronutrients like folic acid, iron, calcium, Vitamin D, iodine and macronutrients can adversely affect pregnancy and feto-maternal outcomes.
She was delivering a talk on ‘Maternal Health and Nutrition’ at an online symposium organized by Department of Community Medicine, Dr B.C. Roy Multi-Specialty Medical Research Centre, IIT Kharagpur, on the theme, “Women’s Reproductive Wellbeing and Nutrition: A Comprehensive Approach”.
The symposium sought to address the issues pertaining to the significance of nutrition in varied aspects of women’s health including adolescent health, maternal health, reproductive and sexually transmitted infections (RTI/STI), and female reproductive tract cancers.
Dr Tabassum Nawab discussed the weight gain issue during pregnancy and the increasing prevalence of gestational diabetes among Indian women. She emphasized on optimization of maternal nutrition before conception for better health and good feto-maternal outcomes.
Participants from different fields of study including public health, nursing and social welfare attended the symposium.
