AMU faculty delivers inaugural address

ALIGARH  : Prof M J Warsi, Chairman, Department of Linguistics, Aligarh Muslim University delivered an inaugural address during the online workshop on “Forensic Linguistics: The Science of Linguistic Investigations” organized by the International School of Dravidian Linguistics (ISDL), Thiruvananthapuram.

Prof Warsi said that Forensic Linguistics is a fast-growing discipline which provides increased focus on various allied areas like the language of the written law including court procedures, judicial processes, teaching and learning of spoken and written languages and legal translation, etc.

He said that Forensic Linguistics primarily deals with voice identification, author identification, discourse analysis, linguistic proficiency Dialectology, linguistic origin analysis and linguistic veracity analysis.

Forensic linguists could help reveal cases of corruption or other criminal cases by detecting lies through the analysis of the acknowledgement of the suspect’s statements and witness in terms of the used language.
