AMU Faculty delivers lecture in Webinar

Aligarh: “The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) calls for the formulation of one law for India in matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption,” said Prof M Shakeel Ahmed Samdani, Dean, Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

He was delivering the keynote address in a national webinar on, ‘Uniform Civil Code: Pros and Cons in a Nutshell’ organized by the Ajmal Law College, Hojai, Assam.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, Prof Samdani pointed out: “Article 44 provides that the State shall endeavour to secure for all citizens a Uniform Civil Code throughout the territory of India to help the cause of national integration by removing contradictions.”

He shed light on fundamental rights and directive principles of state policy, while explaining the issues related with the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code.

Prof Samdani also spoke about the historical background of personal laws in India and the Law Commission Report.

Mr Akkas Ali (Principal, Ajmal Law College) and Dr Arpita Das (Faculty member, Ajmal Law College) extended vote of thanks to Prof Samdani for keeping a period of time free from his schedule for the webinar.
