ALIGARH  : Dr. Taher H. Pathan, Incharge, Marathi Section, Department of Modern Indian Languages, Aligarh Muslim University, delivered a lecture on the theme “Multilingual Nation, Unity in Diversity”, as a resource person in a National Seminar on “Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav,” organized by the Language Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh at Sanskrit Sansthan, Lucknow.

Dr Pathan remarked that India is a great example of unity in diversity as people of diverse religions, cultures, castes and sects live together and have a deep sense of tolerance and compassion towards each other.

He said India is a multilingual society and every language has a rich treasure of literature which ultimately creates a sense of unified Indian literature with great drawings from the Sanskrit and Prakrit languages of ancient times.

Dr Pathan pointed out that the identity of Indianness is the most prominent that emanates from the multilingualism in the country which creates in the people of India a sense of shared social and cultural heritage.

He underscored that works of poets and writers of Bangla, Oriya, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, etc., should be brought to the fore through translation as it would also help in assimilating various languages into successful implementation of the National Education Policy 2020.

“All-Indian identities of writers of different languages are formed only when their creations are translated into other languages”, he added.
