AMU Faculty Member Delivers Online Talk

Aligarh : Dr. Asif Ali, Associate Professor in the Architecture Section of the University Polytechnic, Aligarh Muslim University delivered an online lecture at Traditional Architecture Gathering (TAG-24), organized by the Classic Planning Institute, USA.

Delivering his talk on the theme of “Climate Adaptation Techniques in Mughal Gardens and Buildings”, he delved into various aspects of Mughal architecture, focusing on elements such as courtyard planning, evaporative cooling, natural ventilation, thermal mass, shading devices, jaali (lattice screens), and microclimate control.

Highlighting the historical significance of the relationship between human activities and nature, Dr. Ali emphasized the strong bond that existed in the past and how it influenced architectural design. This harmony had been disrupted overtime, leading to unsustainable development practices.

He said Mughal gardens and buildings emerged as a response to the region’s hot climatic conditions, showcasing solutions to improve microclimates and create more comfortable spaces.

The lecture concluded with insights into how historical architectural practices can inform contemporary approaches to sustainable design and urban planning.
