AMU faculty member honoured
ALIGARH : Prof Asad U Khan, Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, Aligarh Muslim University has been selected for the “Tata Innovation Fellowship” for the year 2022-23. The prestigious fellowship given by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, is meant to honour and encourage scientists involved in translational research through innovative scientific knowledge and platform technologies.
Prof Asad has been selected for this fellowship in recognition of his outstanding research contributions in the field of Antimicrobial Resistance and infection control. The fellowship carries a monthly scholarship over and above his salary and annual funds to execute the proposed work for the fellowship for a period of three years, extendable to two more years.
Prof Asad is working to solve a major worldwide problem of microbial resistance in the country. The Department of Biotechnology, Government of India has also sanctioned him a grant for the Centre of Bioinformatics and National Network Project. He has also been awarded an Industrial BIG-BIRAC grant to incubate a company to translate his novel technology for its commercialization. He was a recipient of the Visitor’s Award, a prestigious Om Prakash Bhasin award in 2020-2021.
