AMU faculty member presents paper in Croatia
Aligarh : Dr Orus Ilyas, faculty member, Department of Wildlife Sciences, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) reflected on how sympatric populations of species with similar ecology are limited by competition for available resources.
She was presenting a paper on ‘Mechanisms of Habitat Partitioning of Sympatric Deer Species: A Hypothesis of Interspecific Competition’ at the 10th Deer Biology Congress held at Osijek, Croatia that concluded on September 9.
Dr Orus explored the contribution of environmental factors and the presence of other ungulate species on the distribution of sympatric deer species and discussed the importance of both biotic and abiotic factors.
The finding of the paper is the outcome of the CSIR- Government of India funded research project, ‘Conservation Status, Ecology and Co-existence of Sympatric Ungulates in Panna Tiger Reserve, M.P’ in which she was the Principal Investigator.
Dr Orus also chaired a session on ‘Deer Habitat and Management’.
