AMU faculty participates in debate contest

Aligarh : The rivals were no pushovers providing easy chances; but that did not stop Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) faculty member from the Department of Anaesthesiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Prof Syed Moied to discourse at great length against the motion on ‘Controversial Aspects on Non-Invasive Ventilation’ in the Indian Critical Care League (ICCL) of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi.

He was one of five leading academicians from Uttar Pradesh representing the gritty Lucknow Nawabs in a debate contest against the Kolkata Tigers that finished in a nail biting draw in the ICCL tie inspired by a popular cricket league model.

Prof Moied’s team lost the toss—leaving him to respond with evidences from the medical literature against the vigorous arguments of opponents in the match of the competition comprising 12 teams including the Lucknow Nawabs, Kolkata Tigers, Jaipur Royals, Chennai Champions, Gurgaon Gladiators, Bangalore Warriors, Ahmedabad Lions, Delhi Rulers, Pune Frontiers, Mumbai Masters, Bhubaneswar Blasters and Hyderabad Heroes.

“All matches had teams of leading academicians debating some of the major issues in Critical Care Medicine. The contest was conducted by umpires with prowess and mastery in Critical Care Medicine”, said Prof Moied.

After the ICCL, Prof Moied delineated practice guidelines and systematically developed recommendations that assist the practitioner and patient in making decisions about health care in a invited talk on ‘Difficult Airway Management – Chose or Lose’ of the Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme at the Post Graduate Institute of Child Health, Noida.
