AMU faculty Prof Akbar Husain speaks on mental health

Aligarh: “Since, the Covid 19 pandemic causes fear and anxiety and the social distancing measures lead to isolation and loneliness, there is urgent need to take precautions to lower down strong emotions among people,” said Prof Akbar Husain, Department of Psychology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

He was speaking as the Chief Guest of the webinar on ‘Mental Health and Pandemic Crisis’ organised by the AMU Alumni Association, Jazan, Kingdom of Saudia Arabia (KSA).

Delineating Psychospiritual approaches to deal with mental health problems during lockdown, Prof Akbar presented recent evidence based holistic psychospiritual practices that enhance comfort and allow for transcendence to a mentally well state of being.

Prof Akbar also answered queries of participants in an interactive session conducted by Dr Ahmad Khalid Khan, Member, AMU Alumni Association, Jazan.

AMU alumnus and San Diego, USA based Clinical Psychologist, Mr Syed Ashraf Imam delivered a talk on ‘COVID-19: Coping with the New Normal.’

Dr Ruby Khan delivered the welcome address. Dr Syed Kashif Ali led the organising committee and Mr Mohammad Faisal conducted the programme. Ms Sana Sarwar extended the vote of thanks.
