AMU Flower Show concludes with prize distribution

Aligarh : Dazzlingly spread of blooms, blossoms, nosegays and florets by the Gulistan-e-Syed team not only added luster to the line-up at the ‘Chrysanthemum, Coleus and Rose Show’ of the Department of Land and Gardens, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), but also bagged four running cups.

 

They emerged as the star runners by winning the Mrs Saleha Farooqui Running Cup for the Queen of the Show, Vice Chancellor Running Cup for the King of the Show, Ansuman Bansal Running Cup for the Best Single Variety of Chrysanthemum and Prof Suhail Ahmad Running Cup for the highest points in the Chrysanthemum, Coleus and Rose Show.

 

At close quarters to the Gulistan-e-Syed’s triumph, the Vice Chancellor Lodge won the Safdar Abbas (ASIM) Memorial Running Cup for the best exhibit in Class G and Mr B H Hashmi Running Cup for the Best Double Chrysanthemum. Begum Musharraf Jahan Rose Garden claimed the Prof B A Running Cup for the Best Rose and Guest House No 1 was declared the winner of Mr Tahir Hussain (Mamma) Running Cup for Best Coleus.

 

“Overall, 44 first prizes, 44 second prizes and 46 consolation prizes were given to participants in different categories by the Chief Guest, Gaurav Dayal (Commissioner, Aligarh); Guest of Honour, Prof Mujahid Beg (Dean Students Welfare); Prof Anwar Shehzad; Dr Tariq Aftab (Associate Member-in-Charge, Department of Land and Gardens); Prof Mohd Ali Jauhar (Chairman, Department of Urdu); Dr Shams uz Zaman; Dr Imtiaz Ahmad; Dr Irshad Mahmood; Prof Subuhi Khan and Prof Farah Azmi”, said Prof Zaki Anwar Siddiqui (Member-in-Charge, Department of Land and Gardens).

 

He added that Mrs Selva Kumari J, the Aligarh District Magistrate also visited the Flower Show.

 

“Nature’s resplendent beauty came alive in the mesmerizing Flower Show, drawing visitors from across the city and nearby places”, said the Chief Guest, Gaurav Dayal (Commissioner, Aligarh).

 

He praised the show and the efforts behind it and encouraged the visitors to grow more and more flowers and plants and thus contribute to the cause of the environment.

 

The potted plants and flowers displayed in the show will be available for sale from 1: 30 pm on December 20.
