AMU Health Check-up Camp for Safai Mitras under ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ 2024 Campaign
Aligarh : Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organised a health check-up camp, ‘Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir,’ as part of the ongoing ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign. The camp was dedicated to promoting the health and safety of the university’s safai mitras (cleanliness workers), who are crucial to the campus’s cleanliness efforts.
The Chief Guest, AMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon, invited Mr. Rakesh Kumar, a Safai Mitra, to join her in cutting the ribbon to inaugurate the Suraksha Shivir, symbolizing appreciation for the essential contributions of cleanliness workers. She highlighted that the ‘Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir’ represents AMU’s commitment to prioritizing their health and well-being, remarking, “A cleaner, greener AMU starts with taking care of those who uphold it.”
AMU Registrar, Mr. Mohammad Imran led a ‘Swachhta’ pledge and expressed appreciation for the Safai Mitras’ hard work. He emphasised that the initiative reinforces AMU’s dedication to ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of its workers who make significant contributions to campus cleanliness.
Earlier, Prof. Hammad Usmani, Director of MAS, in his welcome address, provided an overview of the camp held under the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign.
More than 150 Safai Mitras were screened by specialist doctors from the Departments of Medicine, Ophthalmology, Public Health Dentistry, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. In addition to the medical evaluations, consultants from the Department of Community Medicine conducted health talks and distributed health education pamphlets to raise awareness about preventive healthcare measures.
University Health Officer, Dr. Ali Jafar Abedi, highlighted AMU’s dedication to both cleanliness and the well-being of those who uphold it. He appreciated Chief Medical Officer Dr. Najmul Huda and key faculty members, including Prof. Neha Agrawal, Dr. Nazia Ishrat, Dr. Faraz Ahmad, and Dr. Syed Amaan Ali, Dr. Shivangi Kumari, Dr. Muntazim, Dr. Asma, Dr. Anchal, Dr. Mohammad Bilal, Dr. Samuel G. Monin, Dr. Tejal Srivastava, Ms. Faraya, Dr. Shoeb Hashmi, and Dr. Hridya J., Dr. Sabaat Fatima, and Dr. Shivani Singhal afor their roles in ensuring the camp’s success.
