AMU holds entrance test for various UG and PG courses with heightened security measures

ALIGARH : The Aligarh Muslim University today organized the admission tests for various undergraduate and postgraduate courses with heightened security measures, including the installation of Door-Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD) at the entrance test centres in Aligarh and frisking of candidates with Hand-held Metal Detectors (HHMD) before their entry into the examination halls.

A total of 8428 students applied for the B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture, B.Sc. (Hons) and B.Sc. B.Ed. courses, while 3032 applied for the B.Com. (Hons), 6583 for the BA (Hons) and BA B.Ed and 4758 students applied for the MBA, MBA (IB), MBA (IBF), MBA (Financial Management), MBA (TTM), MBA (Agribusiness), MBA (Hospital Management), MSW, MIRM and MHRM programmes.

The University administration was active from the very start, overseeing strict adherence to entry norms and facilitating a disciplined experience for the candidates.

AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Naima Khatoon, along with the Registrar, Mr Mohammad Imran (IPS), and the Proctor, Prof M. Wasim Ali visited several examination centres, including the Women’s College, Senior Secondary School (Girls), Saiyid Hamid Senior Secondary School (Boys) and the Department of Education.

It was a new experience for several candidates, who cooperated with the University officials in getting themselves checked before entering the examination centre. They appreciated the new measures of suing the HHMD and DFMD to restrict unauthorized materials. The Centre Superintendents and proctorial team were seen committed to the implementation of stricter measures.

Expressing satisfaction with the conduct of the admission test, the Controller of Examination, Dr Mujib Ullah Zuberi said that the university has for the first time used the metal detectors to make the security system at the entrance tests fool-proof and more transparent. The proctorial and other staff were adequately trained to use the metal detectors and frisk the candidates appearing for the test.

Later, in the second shift, the registrar and proctor further visited several centres, including the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Social Sciences, Departments of Botany, Physics, Statistics and Operation Research, Commerce, Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh AMU City School, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College and Jawaharlal Nehru medical College.

The entrance exams were conducted in a peaceful and smooth manner. Two candidates were caught attempting to use mobile phones and actions were taken against them as per the regulations.

Dr Mujib Ullah Zuberi said that senior faculty members were deputed as observers and some faculty members were also appointed as overall in-charges at centres outside Aligarh, who ensured the smooth and peaceful conduct of the entrance tests.

He said that the outside Aligarh centres included Guwahati, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, Sringar, Kozhikode and Delhi.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers organized special help camps at various points on the university campus and to provide the candidates and their parents with the necessary guidance and assistance, and cold drinking water.

The University administration also arranged for tents and drinking water for the candidates’ parents and guardians.

It may be noted that on Sunday, June 9, the admission test for Class XI (Science) and Diploma in Engineering will be held in the morning shift, while the entrance test for Class XI (Humanities and Commerce) and SSSC (Bridge Course) will be held in the evening shift.
