AMU hosts Human Rights Training Program: Empowering Minds for Change

 

Aligarh : In a bid to promote awareness and understanding of human rights principles, the Department of Political Science, AMU , in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission, recently organized a two-day Basic Training Programme on Human Rights. The event, held under the convenorship of Prof. Rachna Kaushal, saw an impressive lineup of speakers and experts, aiming to enlighten and inspire the participants.

The inaugural session was attended by dignitaries, which commenced with a welcome address from the department’s Chairman, Prof. Iqbalur Rahman, setting a tone for intellectual engagement. Prof. Rachana Kaushal articulated the program’s aims and objectives.

Ms. Asifa Rana, Addl. Principal Judge, Agra, delivered a Keynote Address, creating inspiration among the youthful participants.

The Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, further enriched the ceremony with his special remarks, highlighting the significance of the awareness training programme.

Prof. Mirza Asmar Beg, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, concluded the session with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all involved.

The technical sessions, chaired by eminent scholars, delved into various aspects of human rights. Prof. Aftab Alam led the first session, where Dr. Ayesha Imtiyaz discussed the Evolution of Human Rights regime in post-Independence India. Dr. Naghma Faruqui chaired the enlightening discussion on Women’s Rights, stressing the urgency to eradicate patriarchal mindsets for policy implementation. The session on Human Rights and the Indian Constitution, chaired by Mr. Upendra Choudhary, provided insightful perspectives from Mr. Parvez Alam.

The second day saw an equally engaging lineup of sessions. Dr. Adil Gazhnavi, in a session chaired by Prof. Md Nafees Ansari, explored the intricate relationship between human life and a healthy environment, emphasizing the need for environmental rights. Prof. Mohibul Haque, in a discussion on Minority Rights, elucidated global concepts and India’s stance, fostering interactive dialogue among participants. The philosophical exploration of the Indian value system and its correlation with human rights, led by Prof. Arshi Khan, offered profound reflections.

The highlight of the program was the session on Police and Human Rights, featuring SSP Aligarh Mr. Sanjeev Suman (IPS) and AMU Registrar Mr. Mohammad Imran (IPS). Mr. Suman delivered an impactful speech, shedding light on police challenges and aspirations for a more service-oriented force.In a closing ceremony, Prof. Aftab Alam extended vote of thanks underscoring the program’s significance. Mr. Parvez Alam, the co-convenor, and volunteers received special acknowledgment.
