AMU Kishanganj Centre gets new Director

ALIGARH  : Prof. Ishrat Alam, Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University has been appointed Director, AMU Kishanganj Centre, Bihar.

Prof. Alam has been engaged in teaching and research for over 35 years. He received the Netherland Government Reciprocal Fellowship, sponsored by the Government of India, in 1985. He has published two books and contributed five chapters to a book “History of Technology in India, Medieval Period” edited by Harban Mukhia. Another book has been accepted for publication by the Oxford University Press. He has published more than 70 research articles in the journals of national and international repute.

He has contributed to the corporate life of AMU in various capacities, including the Chairman and Coordinator, Centre of Advanced Study, Department of History; Provost, Sir Syed Hall (North) (2019-21); Superintendent of Examination; Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (2018-21); Coordinator B.A. Programme, Centre for Distance Education (2006-2008) and Assistant Proctor (1996-99).

He has served as the Managing Editor of the prestigious journal, Indian Historical Review, published by SAGE publications; as a member of the editorial board of Studies in People’s History (SAGE publications) and Indian Journal of History of Science (Indian national Science Academy). He was Member Secretary of Indian Council of Historical Research (Ministry of Human Research Development, Government of India from October 8, 2008 to October 7, 2013) and served as Secretary of Indian History Congress from 2015 to 2017. He is a member of the Research Council of the Indian National Science Academy, Government of India.
