AMU mourns demise of Mrs Syeda Anwara Taimur

Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) alumna and the first and only woman Chief Minister of Assam, Mrs Syeda Anwara Taimur, passed away in Australia on Monday due to a cardiac arrest. The 84-year-old former Congress and later All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) politician was staying with her son in Australia for the past four years.

“An able administrator and affable people’s person with an illustrious political career, Mrs Syeda Anwara had inspired generations of AMU students. I extend my prayers and condolences to her bereaved family,” said AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor.

Mrs Syeda Anwara was born on November 24, 1936. She graduated from Aligarh Muslim University in Economics. She was a lecturer in Economics at the Devicharan Barua Girls College, Jorhat in 1956.
