AMU mourns demise of Prof Reyazuddin

 

Aligarh : Students and grieving colleagues today bid a tear tearful adieu to distinguished former faculty member, Prof Reyazuddin of the Department of Radiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), who passed away after a prolonged illness at a New Delhi Hospital. He was 80-years-old.

“Prof Reyazuddin was a great human being and a passionate and dedicated teacher, who believed so much in his student’s capabilities and helped them in all the ways. His students and colleagues were blown away by his humility and kindness. I pray to the almighty to grant peace to the departed soul and extend heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family”, said AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor.

He added: This sad demise is a personal loss for me.

“All of us at the JNMC felt a very clear and personal relationship with Prof Reyazuddin and affectionately remember him as someone who always projected a connection, a familiarity, and a welcome to all of us. His death is a shock not just to those at JNMC, but to the broader AMU community and everyone who came to know him”, said Prof Rakesh Bhargava (Dean, Faculty of Medicine) and Prof Shahid Ali Siddiqui (Principal, JNMC).

Prof Shagufta Wahab (Chairperson, Department of Radio-Diagnosis) also extended condolences.

“I hope that Prof Reyazuddin’s family, friends and colleagues will find some comfort in the accomplished life he lived”, she said.

In the arc of his splendid career, Prof Reyazuddin served as the Chairman of the Department of Radiology for four different terms. He has also been the Provost of the residential hostel of JNMC students, the Hadi Hasan Hall and the Non-Resident Student’s Centre.

Prof Reyazuddin also served as the Honorary Treasurer of AMU Student’s Union before retirement in 2006.

The deceased is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter.
