AMU mourns Dr Mumtaz Ahmed Khan’s demise
Aligarh: Renowned educationist, former Pro Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Dr Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, passed away on Thursday at Bengaluru. The 86 year old educationist was founder of Al Ameen Educational Society and has also served as Treasurer of AMU.
Extending condolences, AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor said, “We are deeply saddened by the news of demise of Dr Mumtaz Ahmed Khan. He was a great humanitarian, educationist and social reformer. He contributed a lot for the educational upliftment of the society. He will be greatly missed”.
Prof Mansoor also remembered his association with AMU. “Both his parents had graduated from AMU. He has served as Pro Chancellor and Treasurer of the University. Inspired by Sir Syed’s vision, he established several educational institutions in Southern India. His contribution benefitted a whole generation of students and teachers. It is a huge loss and my thoughts are with his family in this difficult time”.
Dr Mumtaz Ahmed Khan established Al-Ameen Educational Society at Bengaluru which manages nearly three dozen educational institutions. He completed his MBBS from Madras University in 1963.
