AMU mourns Prof Mohammad Irfan’s demise

Aligarh: A former distinguished faculty member, senior physicist and former Controller of Examination, Aligarh Muslim University, Professor Mohammad Irfan today passed away at the J N Medical College hospital. He was 73.

Prof Irfan served as the Controller of Examinations from 2007 to 2009. He also played an important role in the development of the department of Physics as its chairman during November 2004-2007. He led the team of physicists under the CERN Project as its coordinator and significantly contributed as principal investigator in the internationally acclaimed research pertaining to A Large Hadron Collider Experiment (ALICE).

Prof Irfan was also elected as Secretary, AMU Teachers’ Association and he was very popular among his students and colleagues who remember him for straight forwardness and friendly nature.

AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor has deeply mourned the death of Professor Mohammad Irfan and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family. He said Professor Irfan’s demise is a big loss to the university.
