AMU mourns the demise of Prof Syed Ishtiaq Husain Rizvi
ALIGARH: The Faculty of Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University mourned the sad demise of Prof Syed Ishtiaq Husain Rizvi who passed away after a brief illness on, November 6, Sunday.
AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor extended sincerest condolences to the family, friends and students of Prof Ishtiaq.
He said: “Prof Ishtiaq has been a source of profound inspiration to his students and we were fortunate to have him in our lives. He will always be remembered in the highest regard”.
Reading out the condolence message to the faculty members and students, Prof M U Rabbani (Dean, Faculty of Medicine) conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
“Prof Ishtiaq was an excellent teacher and a gentle soul to scores of people both in and outside the campus; he will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched in so many different ways”, said Prof R K Tewari (Principal, Z A Dental College)
A two-minute silence was also observed to pay homage to him.
Prof Syed Ishtiaq was the founding chairman of the Department of Dental Surgery, which was separated from the Department of General Surgery, J N Medical College. Later, he served as the first Principal of the Dental College, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.
He spent a very active life after his retirement from AMU in 1995.
