AMU mourns the demise of Prof Syed Qamar Abbas Naqvi

ALIGARH : The faculty members and students of the Department of Botany, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) mourned the demise of Prof Syed QamarAbbas Naqvi who breathed his last in wee hours of November 30.

AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor extended sincerest condolences to the family, friends and students of Prof Naqvi.

He said: “Prof Naqvi has been a source of profound inspiration to his students and we were fortunate to have him in our lives. He will always be remembered in the highest regard”.

Reading out the condolence message to the faculty members and students, Prof Ghazaqla Parveen (Chairperson, Department of Botany) conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.

“Prof Naqvi was a dedicated and excellent teacher and researcher who was always ready to reach out to students and his young colleagues. He will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched in so many different ways”, said Prof Ghazala.

A two-minute silence was also observed to pay homage to him.

Prof Naqvi received his B.Sc., M.Sc. and PhD degrees from AMU and joined the department of Botany as lecturer in 1980. He retired from university services in 2012.
