AMU observes Martyrs’ Day

Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) today observed the Martyrs’ Day to mark the death anniversary of the Father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, by observing a two-minute silence from 11:00 am. A siren was blown for observing the silence.

Teachers, students and non-teaching staff in various departments, faculties and schools and all officers and other staff members of the Administrative Block stood up, wherever they were as soon as they heard the siren to observe two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the Father of the Nation and all the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives in the Indian freedom struggle.

Speeches and talks related to Martyrs’ Day and on the role and sacrifices of freedom fighters were organised at various AMU schools by the principals and the Cultural Education Centre (CEC) of the University organised plays, dramas and exhibitions on the theme of ‘National Freedom Movement’ to observe the day. The CEC Coordinator also organised screenings of films on Freedom Movement and National Integration.
