AMU observes National Education Day

Aligarh: Begum Azeezun Nisa Hall of Girls at Aligarh Muslim University, observed National Education Day on the 11th of November 2019 to mark the Birth Anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, great freedom fighter, eminent educationist and the first Union Minister of Education. The Hall organised various competitions for the residents around relevant topics relating to female education in the country and the relevance of Maulana Azad in the contemporary time.

An essay writing competition on the topic “Women in Higher Education: Problems and Challenges” was organised in English, Hindi and Urdu languages. A Slogan Writing Competition on the topic “Preventing Female Dropouts” was also organised for the benefit of the residents. The students of the hall participated in the events with great enthusiasm and fervour.

The event was organised by Ms Alisha Ibkar, the Literary and Cultural Warden In-Charge of the Hall under the supervision of the Provost, Prof Subuhi Khan. The event was arranged by the Wardens, the members of the Hall Committee and the residents of the Hall.

In another event Abdullah Hall organised card making, slogan writing and Inter-hostel cricket tournament competition to mark the National Education Day. A large number of students took part in the activities and prizes were distributed on the occasion.

The Provost, Abdullah Hall, Dr Ghazala Naheed and all the wardens of Abdullah Hall acquainted students with the valuable contributions of Dr Abdul Kalam Azad in the field of education and sensitized students about importance of education in the progress of the society and ultimately in nation building.

The Department of Pathology and Department of Paediatrics, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) also observed the ‘National Education Day’. “Posters and placards were prepared by JNMC students and sweets distributed to mark the occasion,” said Prof S H Arif, Chairman, Department of Pathology and Prof Farzana K Beig, Chairperson, Department of Paediatrics.

Meanwhile, the Maulana Azad Library organized a seminar to celebrate the ‘National Education Day’ in which Dr M Yusuf, Acting Librarian and Dr T S Asghar, Assistant Librarian delivered lectures.
